South Miami City: Home For Sale in South Miami City
South Miami City was found in 1897 by pioneer W. A. Larkins who brought his family into the green wilderness of what now is known as Ingraham Highway. A year later after that, Larkins established a post office. Leading the achievement of the Miami to Homestead expansion of the Florida East Coast Railroad in 1906, this smart pioneer acquired the property west of what is now known as Red Road and south of Sunset Drive. He based the first grocery store in the area. Then, the Government moved the post office to that location, and the nearby community was called Larkins in honor to its creator. The land boom of the ‘20’s caused a great impact on Larkins because land values were high in all counts. The main center for Real Estate investments took place near Riviera Theatre which is today known as The Shops at Sunset Place.
South Miami Larkins residents wished to incorporate their rapidly increasing community and, in March of 1926 they voted to annex an area limited by Red Road on the East, SW 104 Street and Kendall Drive on the South, Bird Road on the North, Ludlam and Palmetto on the West. And, a new municipality was founded under the name of “Town of South Miami”. Around that time there were a lot of constructions and project developments. Unfortunately the hurricane of September of 1926 ruined most of the growing efforts. Town’s residents make their best to recover from such a big disaster. They faced a very bad time when the Florida East Coast railway station broke due to a devastating burning and left the Town’s residents with no station for years. The population was very much disappointed with the town’s status since they felt the government disregarded them completely. So, the residents presented a new charter in 1927 to the Florida Legislature to become a City. The Town of South Miami was named the City of South Miami on June 24 of 1927.
South Miami City grew up considerably after World War II which ended in 1945. In the present days the city is continually experiencing incredible growth and serious developments especially focused on housing opportunities. Real Estate is very well positioned among all the business and services that the city provides to both residents and visitors. The City of South Miami is recognized as a small town with a unique and desired environment which make the city be called “City of Pleasant Living”. It counts with beautiful parks and recreational areas like Dante Fascell Park, Fuchs Park, Brewer Park among many others where adults and kids can enjoy numerous activities such as tennis, basketball, handball, and more.
