The City of Opa Locka is situated in the north western area of Miami-Dade County. Opa Locka counts with a general airport, three parks and two lakes. It has a population of about 14,700 residents and has the most distinctive buildings and construction designs in the country. The city of Opa Locka is a small community in which African-American predominate the area. It was integrated as a City in 1926. The city experienced a very elevated number of unemployment and poverty. About 61% of Opa Locka’s females are the head of the household and their incomes are stated below the poverty level. Although there are a 51% of young residents that have not completed high-school, the city increased a community sense by connecting residents to a better planning decision, supporting home ownership, getting better the local public schools and their infrastructure among many other important activities to work on.
