Oakland Park City: Home For Sale in Oakland Park City
The City of Oakland Park had its first permanent pioneers in 1901. It was the Whidby family traveling from Georgia to South Florida. In 1918 many other families moved to this farm area and built their stable homes. In 1923 a land development company started the Oakland Park Subdivision organizing the biggest barbecue ever performed in Broward County. The original and first City Hall was built by city employees and a helper of the Fire Department in 1946.
The City of Oakland Park was incorporated as such in 1929 and despite the many offers from Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale, Oakland Park residents wanted to run the city as an independent one.
Oakland Park Elementary School was founded by 1925 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its major involvement to the region’s history and legacy. This school is still open. Local residents as well as all Floridians applaud the role this school played during the devastating hurricane of 1926.
Oakland Park City counts today with a population of about 42,421 residents. It is a family oriented community and mostly recognized for its professional firefighters. The City got its name from the oak trees that ruled the Middle River when the area was first established.
