North Miami was called “Town Of Miami Shores” between the years 1926 and 1931. It was named that way because of its eastern and closest proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. The land boom of decade 1920 in Florida gave the area a big exposure with many lot sales and serious Real Estate developments. But, unfortunately the devastating hurricane of 1926 shadowed several Real Estate plans and many projects in that regard were partially forgotten until having the right time to restart them.
The City Hall building was built in 1928 and housed the fire and police departments. The William Jennings Bryan School was built in the same year and in the same place where the Arch Creek Elementary School got in flames in 1927. By 1931 the local population was able to choose a name for the whole area, and they named it “The Town of North Miami” or “North Miami”.

Due to the end of World War II in 1945, The Town of North Miami started growing so fast. Many veteran soldiers came down to the Town with their families and constructions such as road buildings, homebuilding and stores began to satisfy all residents needs. In 1951 the area was recognized as one of the best growing towns in the Nation. A year later after that, all residents voted to obtain a new name and charter. The Town of North Miami was officially named as “The City of North Miami” on May 27, 1953 and it was incorporated as such on that same date.
The City of North Miami is very well known as a place where people enjoy life in a healthy style. The city provides to both residents and visitors a wide variety of recreational activities like boating, sandy beaches, bicycling, running, walking and tennis. There are many programs for ceramics, senior activities and athletics that are performed by the local Park and Recreation Department. The City of North Miami offers an uncountable number of housing options in which are included affordable single-family homes and condominiums. Multi-million dollar investments in Real Estate are also found looking over Biscayne Bay.
