Lauderhill became a City on June 30th, 1959. Builder Herbert Sadkin was the one known as the “Founding Father” of this city. In the beginning Lauderhill was named as “Sunnydale”. But a friend of Sadkin, William Safire, who lived in New York and was a distinguished journalist of the New York Times, disliked such a name and suggested Lauderhill. Herbert Sadkin said that there weren’t any hills there, and the journalist replied that there weren’t any dales in Lauderdale either. Both laugh for hours and Lauderhill City was born. The Lauderhill Mall opened its doors by 1966 and it is said that the ground where the Mall is placed used to be a site to capture alligators.
In the late 70s Lauderhill City became a single-family home community. The Real Estate catchphrase at that time was something like: “buying a home in the Everglades”, because the city was considered like a far west since housing developments firmly started in the Northwest area. Lauderhill is located in the central part of Broward County and is about one mile west of Fort Lauderdale City. It has easy access to many entertainment attractions as well as businesses of all kinds in the counties of Broward, Miami Dade and Palm Beach.
Lauderhill City has now a population of about 51,000 residents and counts in large quantity with beautiful single-family homes and luxury multi-family residences. The City is fully recognized for its recreational activities and admiration of arts and culture. It is also very well known for its Real Estate investments and commercial developments.
