Homestead City was incorporated as such in 1913 and is the second oldest city in Miami-Dade County. All farmers of the area could travel and ship their agricultural goods to Miami and other parts of the state by using the railroad that had been enlarged to Key West from Miami by Henry Flagler in 1904. The people who helped build the railroad continued living in the area and were the founders of Homestead City. And By 1912 the construction of the Overseas railroad was finished.
